Rhode Island beaches range from sandy swaths to sheltered coves & lakes

The beaches of Rhode Island -- the Ocean State -- are loved by local people and visitors for their vast, sandy expanses (Scarborough and Misquamicut), their sheltered coves (Westerly and Watch Hill), their grat surfing (Breton Point in Newport). State beaches are well-supplied with parking and pavilions offering showers, bathrooms, food, and rentals. Inland areas, including the historic Blackstone Valley and Lincoln Woods, have lakes and ponds with beaches surrounded by tall pines and filled with families.
