Here are just a few highlights of the Pawtucket region's premiere summer festival: Theater plays, September 4; Chinese dragon boat races, September 6; Lousiania Night, September 12; Irish Music Festival, September 13; and the Pawtucket Film Festival, September 26-28. Other major events occurring in Pawtucket's September include an Arts and Crafts Marketplace, the Blackstone River Party / Taste of the River food fest on the fifth, Chinese dragon boat races, and the Slater Park Fall Festival. This month-long, citywide celebration features live music, indoor and outdoor fun for people of all ages, plenty of refreshments, and cultural events.
September 5 -- Blackstone River Party/Taste of the Valley -- Food and dessert samplings from community restaurants at the historic Slater Mill Museum, 67 Roosevelt Avenue, Pawtucket, with music by Fat City Band from 6 to p.m. Ruben Moreno and the Zydeco Re-evolution performs fro 8:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. Event is held rain or shine. Tickets will be sold at the Pawtucket Visitor Center, 175 Main Street. Admission is $10. Children under 12 admitted for free. 401-724-5200.
September 6 -- Chinese Dragon Boat Races at the School Street Pier, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.;
September 6 -- Steampunk Soiree at Slater Mill for Steampunk fans, guests, and gear & water wheel geeks. This is an evening of music, dance, spectacle, and merriment under the tent and on the dance floor. Music will be provided by Alec K. Redfearn & The Eyesores. Tickets are $1. per person and may be reserved by calling Slater Mill at 401-725-8638 ext. 102.
September 7 -- Samfest at Slater Mill offers a concert retrospective featuring the repertoire of American music great, Nat King Cole and daughter Natalie. Free and open to the public. Tours of Slater Mill will be available. Noon-4 p.m.
September 13-14 -- Slater Park Fall Festival at Slater Park, Armistice Blvd. and Newport Avenue. Concert by the Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra and Pops in the Park at 5 p.m. will be followed by fireworks.

This three-day event showcases the many different events and activities of Block Island. The featured event is the Block Island Chowder Contest and Oyster festival. More family-friendly fun includes a sand castle building contest on the Town Beach; an arts festival at the ferry landing; a Baggo Tournament, tours of the Historical Society, animal farms and fiber mill tours, and so much more. There's an outdoor and indoor activity here for everybody, from paddle-boarding to shopping for special Block Island bargains. Cost: Taste of Block Island Buttons, $5 per button.

Bring the kids and family to a traditional New England autumn fair at this historic farm. You will see demonstrations of Colonial-period trades and you can join in the children's crafts, sawbucking competition, or the watermelon seed spitting contest. There will be vendors, live music and entertainment, and traditional games. Bring rain boots to join the Muck Boot Fashion Show. Time: 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Admission is $8 for adults, $5 for kids ages 3-12 and seniors age 65 and older.
